Workshop Overview.

Hard Castle Crags, is a stunning wooded valley, surrounding the historic 19th Century Gibson Mill.

During this practical Photography Workshop, you will learn how to take better Landscape Photographs and to connect with your surroundings. Emma will guide you through, creative composition and techniques that many professional Landscape Photographers use.

Explore the magical woods, unusual rock formations, hidden waterfalls and winding paths, at one of the most amazing locations, Hardcastle Crags. This location really does have it all…..
Let yourself be immersed in the stunning surroundings, learning how to make that creative connection with your subject matter. Learn to photograph detail, experiment with shutter speeds and get to grips with your DSLR.

We will pause for Lunch at the wonderful and Historic Gibson Mill, a chance to also get to know your fellow group members, share creative ideas and review any photographs you may have taken. After Lunch, there will be plenty of time to explore the woods and experiment further with your photography.

You, will come away from the Workshop, truly inspired! Not only with a far greater knowledge of how to take better Landscape images But a clearer understanding of connection and composition.

Whats included; Emma Holt will be on hand to help guide you through the day, answering your questions and helping you get the most from your own Photography. We keep the numbers of participants small, meaning there will be ample opportunity to gain 1:1 Tuition with Emma Holt. Each participant will receive Workshop notes to take away with them.

Whats Excluded; Travel to and from Hardcastle Crags. The cost of Parking. The cost of lunch and any refreshments you wish to bring or purchase. Your Camera/ equipment insurance.

Important information;

  • There will be some walking involved during this particular workshop, please inform at time of booking if you may have any mobility issues, to determine the suitability of this Workshop. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (Walking boots/ ect), the weather can be unpredictable ,so come prepared. Each Student is responsible for their own safety, therefore we ask that you wear appropriate footwear/clothing at all times.

  • There are toilets situated near the car park and at the main mill/cafe.

  • When booking, please advise on your Camera/ Kit and level of photographic/ Camera knowledge you have.

Workshop Overview.
What a truly incredible location, simply AMAZING. This stunning place, consists of woods and a beautiful beach that stretches for miles…Find yourself deep in a magical woods, that seems to go on forever, walk further and your met with beautiful golden sand dunes, large multi-coloured pebbles in soft hues are scattered everywhere, let the views of the beech and sea sink in….what a place to spend a day or two?

There really is so much to photograph, you will be truly spoilt for choice. This location has been specially chosen for the contrast. So expect to really experiement with your own Photography, get out of your comfort zone, explore the many photographic opportunities you have. If your struggling with manual settings, now is the time to practise and experiement. You would be forgiven for feeling a mood in the air, as you step in the woods. The trees cascading around you, there is a peace, even when its busy, its a location that has to be seen to really appreciate it.

We will pause for a packed lunch break, on picnic benches. A perfect way to have a look at images the group has taken and everyone is welcome to ask any questions they may have.

Whats Included; Group Tuition with Emma Holt BA(Hons). Handouts to take away for each Student. There will be ample opportunity for each participant to receive 1:1 Tuition, during the Workshop.

Whats Excluded; Travel to and from the Workshop location. Any Car parking costs. The cost of your packed Lunch and any refreshments you may require. Please ensure you bring a packed lunch with you. Your own Camera/equipment Insurance is not included in the price.

An introduction into basic Portraiture on location. Set in the lovely grounds of Townley Park and gardens, Emma will take you through the very basics of portraiture, learn how to capture, frame and compose a basic portrait shot. Experiment with aperture, light , composition and lens choice.

A model is provided for the workshop, this also enables students to learn tips on posing techniques, whilst getting creative with their camera.

Townley park is a wonderful backdrop...there really is a variety of places around the park perfect for location portraiture. A perfect chance for you to experiment.

Emma has a wealth of photographic knowledge...although well known for her atmospheric black & white photography, not only does Emma undertake regular contemporary portrait shoots, she also joint owns a Wedding Photography business ; Stockman & Holt Photography BA(Hons). Workshop Overview.

This is the perfect Photography Workshop to really get to grips with your Landscape and Water Photography. Aimed at beginner/ intermediate level Photographers, learn how to perfect your composition, get to grips with shutter speeds and lens choice.

Discover the wonderful and hidden beauty of South Lakeland and the historic village of Grasmere. We will spend some time exploring the area, concentrating on the stunning views, lake and surrounding woods. The Workshop Starts in the area known as White Moss. A simply beautiful Woods! Where you will spend time learning how to properly compose Landscape Photography, using trees to frame your subject matter, as well as incorporating texture and detail into your finished images. We will then pause for a well earned lunch at the gorgeous 'Potting shed cafe' within Grasmere garden centre ( they serve simply scrumptious jam & cream scones!)
After lunch we will explore the hidden and atmospheric 'Penny Rock wood'.
This is the perfect location to understand how water can relate to land in terms of composition and negative space. The rocks at Penny Rock wood, make for an interesting subject matter, get creative with the mood and learn techniques, Pro Photographers use.

Its also a perfect time to get to grips with your Tripod or Camera kit and experiment with different shutter speeds, apertures and lens, or simply enjoy the views and make friends with like-minded creative individuals.

There will be ample time for each participant to receive some 1:1 Tuition, during the Experience, you will get to experiment with your camera settings, nothing is rushed. Students are encouraged to take their time, experiment and make a connection with their surroundings.

You can expect to learn about Creative composition, how light can bring an image to life, aperture and Shutter speeds ( depending on each individuals level of Photographic knowledge).

You may want to make a weekend of it? There are some lovely b&b's near by in Rydal Mount, Grasmere and nearby Ambleside, we can recommend several places we have stayed in previously.

Set in the lovely grounds of Townley Park and gardens, This Half day Photography Workshop, focuses on understanding the basics of how changing the Aperture effects your finished images. What is an Aperture? How do you alter your Aperture? If your struggling to understand how Aperture works, then this Photography Workshop is for you.

You will learn techniques and gain knowledge by working in Aperture Priority mode, so owning a DSLR is required for this particular Workshop. No Camera? Don’t worry, Emotive Capture has an entry level Nikon DSLR for hire. Please let us know if you would like to hire this Camera. Emma will encourage you to experiement, whilst making the most of your lovely surroundings. Learning all about changing your Aperture, will really improve your Photography.

Workshop Overview.
The Workshop begins in Malham village, where a short walk leads you through a magical, hidden woods. It really looks and feels like a secret garden with its overgrown plants, array of flowers and wildlife.

The smell of wild garlic hits you as soon as you enter the woods and the river that runs through it, is home to various twisted and fallen trees, branches and logs. A tiny path leads right up to a stunning waterfall, aptly named ;Janet's Foss (after a fairy queen). It really is a gorgeous little place...perfect for some creative photography. If you are patient you may see the beautiful fluttering wagtail by the waterfall,( I have been lucky enough to capture it! ) It actually looks like a scene from a Disney film.

After a picnic Lunch, we will make our way towards the rather breathtaking 'Gordale Scar'. A complete contrast to the hidden woods. The rugged backdrop is a climbers and Photographers dream! The dramatic Gorge, is home to some stunning rock formation, simply perfect for a photographing texture and form. The view to the Gorge, is brilliant and so worth the walk to 'Gardale Scar'.

Get creative! Experiment with composition, texture and contrast and enjoy the amazing surroundings. Although some walking is involved, its worth it!! The location is simply wonderful!

There is a wonderful little refreshment van, selling tea/coffee/ cakes etc... this is positioned on route to 'Gardale Scar' We may stop here on the way back!

Let yourself be immersed in the stunning surroundings, learning how to make that creative connection with your subject matter. Learn to photograph detail, experiment with shutter speeds and get to grips with your DSLR.

We will pause for Lunch at the wonderful and Historic Gibson Mill, a chance to also get to know your fellow group members, share creative ideas and review any photographs you may have taken. After Lunch, there will be plenty of time to explore the woods and experiment further with your photography.

This Photography Workshop, is designed with the complete a beginner in mind!

If you are looking to really get off Auto settings and gain a greater understanding of Photography and those settings on your Camera and this Workshop cant be missed!

What an opportunity, not only will you discover the wonderful and hidden beauty of South Lakeland and the historic village of Grasmere, but the knowledge and expertise you will learn will really make your transition from Automatic settings easier to grasp! We aim to get you at least shooting in a semi manual capacity (Aperture priority).

We will spend some time exploring the area, concentrating on the stunning views, lake and surrounding woods. This area is obviously beautiful, and has heaps of history with the historic Rydal Mount, the home of William Wordsworth in his later years. Penny Rock wood has a magical feel and the views over Lake Grasmere are stunning!
Later pausing for a well earned lunch at the gorgeous 'Potting shed cafe' within Grasmere garden centre ( they serve simply scrumptious jam & cream scones!) Lunch is also time to reflect over what you have learnt so far, a chance to look at your images and receive help and advice.

There will be ample time for each participant to receive some 1:1 Tuition, during the Photography Workshop. you will get to experiment with your own creativity, nothing is rushed. Students are encouraged to take their time, experiment and make a connection with their surroundings.

You can expect to learn about Creative composition, aperture and Shutter speeds ( depending on each individuals level of Photographic knowledge).

You may want to make a weekend of it? There are some lovely b&b's near by in Rydal Mount, Grasmere and nearby Ambleside, we can recommend several places we have stayed in previously.

We aim to get you onto Aperture Priority, obviously this depends on each individual. Each participant needs to have at least an entry level DSLR or equivalent Camera. Therefore we will ask before you book what Camera you have, to check that this Workshop is right for you.

  • What’s included; Group Tuition, with Emma Holt BA(Hons). Printed handouts for every Student to take home with you. There is ample opportunity to receive 1:1 Tuition.

  • What’s Excluded; The cost of your Lunch any further refreshments you may require. Please ensure you bring a drink along with you. Travel to the pickup point at Grasmere.

Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (Walking boots/ etc), the weather in the Lakes can be unpredictable ,so please come prepared. There will be some walking during the workshop, (Easy/Medium).Please inform at time of booking if you may have any mobility issues.

No Camera? Emotive Capture has an Entry level, Nikon DLSR for hire, if you would like to hire this Camera for the duration of the Workshop, please inform on booking.

With stunning views over the Langdale pikes, this really is a beautiful place.

A perfect chance to get to grips with your own Camera, either making that leap from automatic settings to manual mode, or simply improving your own photographic skills. by allowing yourself to really get creative! Learn about creative composition, texture and detail.

There is an abundance of photographic opportunity, allow yourself to be creatively immersed in the wonderful surrounding area. Not only will you be able to Photograph the beautiful Tarn itself, but a small wooden bridge leads up to a wonderful small woodland made up of Larch, Scots pine and sliver birch. A really quiet undisturbed place, perfect for personal reflection and creative connection! There is also a nearby stream...with an abundance of rocks and plants.

During the Workshop, there will be ample time to ask any questions you may have, all workshops are incredibly informal and friendly with the emphasis on not only learning, but also enjoying the day! Places are strictly kept to a minimum, allowing for each individual to get the most out of the experience.

Wow, what an experience!

Two days of practical Photography, under the guidance of the Workshop Leader Emma Holt BA(Hons). Keeping the numbers to minimum means that each participant gets ample opportunity to have 1:1 Tuition.

Day 1; Meeting at the main car park in Grasmere, participants will then be driven to our first locations; White Moss and Penny Rock Wood. Spend the day in truly wonderful locations! There is so much contrast. Penny Rock wood has a magical feel, with large boulders and plants, against a man made wooden path, that leads down to mystical woods and the Lakes edge.

Wonder over the bridge to Photograph truly stunning scenery…the Lake itself is beautiful, it has a tranquillity…and the views are wonderful!

White moss has some of the most gorgeous wooded areas, with a rushing stream and rocks a plenty.

go at your own pace! In fact we encourage students to slow down and really take your time to look at your surroundings. This is a perfect time to practise, get off those automatic settings or experiment with composition and get creative!

We will pause for Lunch at the lovely Potting shed Cafe in Grasmere.

Finishing the day at around 3.30pm/4pm.

Day 2; We will begin the day at 10.30am, again meeting at Grasmere Car park. (Time subject to change).

Participants will then be driven to our next location, Blea Tarn. This is a wonderful location, again with ample chance for each student to gain 1:1 Tuition.

Set in the lovely grounds of Townley Park and gardens, This Half day Photography Workshop, focuses on understanding the basics of how changing the Aperture effects your finished images. What is an Aperture? How do you alter your Aperture? If your struggling to understand how Aperture works, then this Photography Workshop is for you.

You will learn techniques and gain knowledge by working in Aperture Priority mode, so owning a DSLR is required for this particular Workshop. No Camera? Don’t worry, Emotive Capture has an entry level Nikon DSLR for hire. Please let us know if you would like to hire this Camera. Emma will encourage you to experiement, whilst making the most of your lovely surroundings. Learning all about changing your Aperture, will really improve your Photography.

An introduction into basic Portraiture on location. Set in the lovely grounds of Townley Park and gardens, Emma will take you through the very basics of portraiture, learn how to capture, frame and compose a basic portrait shot. Experiment with aperture, light , composition and lens choice.

A model is provided for the workshop, this also enables students to learn tips on posing techniques, whilst getting creative with their camera.

Please wear suitable footwear! Although the amount of walking and terrain underfoot isn't expected to be lengthy or rough, it is advisable to wear comfortable and practicable footwear.

  • Although, kept to minimum, there will be some walking involved during the workshop. Level of Walk; Easy. Underfoot; Easy. Please inform at time of booking if you have any mobility issues, to ascertain the suitability of this particular Workshop.

  • When booking, please advise on your Camera/ Kit and level of photographic/ Camera knowledge you have.

  • A £25.00 deposit, is required on booking. Balances must be paid at least two weeks before the Workshop or in some cases on the day of the Workshop. Every effort is made to ensure a Workshop goes ahead. If the Workshop has to be cancelled due to bad weather/ illness, an alternative date will be rescheduled or individuals may also use any balance paid towards an alternative Workshop or 1:1 Photography tuition. No refunds are made.

    Disclaimer; We understand how frustrating cancelling a Photography Workshop can be, however due to the nature of our business on occasion a Workshop has to be cancelled due to bad weather/ illness. We cannot be held responsible for the weather. If the weather changes for the worse during a Workshop, we will continue, where possible inside a Cafe/Coffee shop. Then return to practical Photography once the weather is better. The Workshop may finish early if the Workshop Leader determines the Weather too bad to continue. We will owe you the time you have left. Participants may use any balance paid/time owing towards an alternative Workshop or 1:1 Photography tuition. No refunds are made.
